Liana
Wizardsardine
Liana is a desktop Bitcoin wallet (Windows, macOS, Linux) by Wizardsardine, a French Bitcoin security company, built around an idea no other mainstream wallet puts at its centre: inheritance and programmed recovery. Using Miniscript, Liana encodes time-locked recovery paths directly into the Bitcoin scripts: you can designate one or more fallback keys (an heir, a second device, your future self) that become spendable only after a configurable delay, measured in blocks. Keep using the wallet normally and the timelock never triggers; stop, and the fallback path activates. The "Safety Net" feature adds professional key-agents as a last resort, dormant during normal use. It is Bitcoin-only, pure self-custody (keys stay yours) and open-source with signed binaries and reproducible builds. It connects to your own Bitcoin node and works with Ledger, Coldcard, Specter and BitBox. The Community edition is free; Liana Business costs 0.016% of assets per month.

In its favour: inheritance and time-locked recovery written into Bitcoin scripts via Miniscript (one of a kind); pure self-custody and open-source with reproducible builds; European company; connects to your own node. The trade-off to weigh: desktop-only and Bitcoin-only (no confirmed mobile app); designed for those who understand timelocks and multisig, not the absolute beginner; the Business edition carries an AUM fee.
On the Sovereignty lens the score is 4.8/5 (outstanding): the strength is fund control (5.0/5), while privacy & anonymity (4.6/5) is the weak link.

FAQ
How does Bitcoin inheritance work with Liana?
Liana uses Miniscript to write a time-locked recovery path directly into the Bitcoin script: you designate a fallback key (for example an heir's) that can only spend the funds after a configurable delay, measured in blocks. As long as you use the wallet normally the timelock resets and the fallback key can do nothing; if you stop using it, after the delay the fallback path activates. Everything stays on-chain and verifiable, without handing keys to a third party.
Is Liana custodial?
No. Liana is pure self-custody: private keys stay on your device or your hardware wallet. Wizardsardine has no access to your funds. The optional "Safety Net" feature can add professional key-agents as a last resort after long timelocks, but they stay dormant during normal use.
How much does Liana cost?
The Community edition is free and open-source. There is a Liana Business version with a stated cost of 0.016% of assets under custody per month, aimed at companies and professionals (source: official site, August 2026).
